Sunlight for Healing and Health
Health Living Tips
00:57
The sun is the mediator of life on earth, whether it be the emerging leaf of a growing plant or the beautiful complexity of the human body. Life cannot exist or function without sunlight.
Sunlight creates the environment necessary for our existence. It creates oxygen and carbon dioxide. It regulates temperature and humidity at life -supporting levels.
Vitamin D- the Sunshine Vitamin
Vitamins are organic chemicals found in the food we eat, acting as catalysts, or facilitators, of the metabolic processes involved in everyday living. Our bodies manufacture chemicals of a similar nature and function, but these are called hormones.
The body's daily requirement of this Vitamin is about 400 units. Exposing your face to sunlight for just 15 minutes will give you more than just your daily requirement.
Vitamin D can also be obtained from Fish Liver especially cod and shark for straight, strong bones with the proper proportions of calcium and phosphorous.

Best healers from nature
Health Living Tips
22:51
"Herbs and other natural remedies can be as effective as traditional treatments, often without the same negative side effects,"
Here are 10 superhealers you'll want to add to the all-natural section of your medicine cabinet—and even to your favorite recipes. Folding one or two of them into your cooking every day can yield big benefits.
Turmeric: Ease arthritis
A heaping helping of curry could relieve your pain. That's because turmeric, a spice used in curry, contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory that works similarly to Cox-2 inhibitors, drugs that reduce the Cox-2 enzyme that causes the pain and swelling of arthritis, says Lee.
It might also: Prevent colon cancer and Alzheimer's disease. According to a small clinical trial conducted by a researcher, curcumin can help shrink precancerous lesions known as colon polyps, when taken with a small amount of quercetin, a powerful antioxidant found in onions, apples, and cabbage. .
Cinnamon: Lower blood sugar
In a recent study of type 2 diabetics, taking cinnamon extract daily successfully reduced blood sugar by about 10%.
It might also: Lower cholesterol. Cinnamon packs a one-two punch for people with type 2 diabetes by reducing related heart risks. In another study of diabetics, it slashed cholesterol by 13% and triglycerides by 23%.
Rosemary: Avoid carcinogens
Frying, broiling, or grilling meats at high temperatures creates HCAs (heterocyclic amines), potent carcinogens implicated in several cancers. But HCA levels are significantly reduced when rosemary extract (a common powder) is mixed into beef before cooking, say researchers. "Rosemary contains carnosol and rosemarinic acid, two powerful antioxidants that destroy the HCAs," .
It might also: Stop tumors. Rosemary extract helps prevent carcinogens that enter the body from binding with DNA, the first step in tumor formation, according to several animal studies. When researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign fed rosemary extract to rats exposed to dimethylbenzanthracene, a carcinogen that causes breast cancer, both DNA damage and tumors decreased. "Human research needs to be done," says study author Keith W. Singletary, PhD. "But rosemary has shown a lot of cancer-protective potential."
Ginger: Avert nausea
Ginger can prevent stomach upset from many sources, including pregnancy, motion sickness, and chemotherapy. "This is one of Mom's remedies that really works," says Suzanna M. Zick, ND, MPH, a research investigator at the University of Michigan. A powerful antioxidant, ginger works by blocking the effects of serotonin, a chemical produced by both the brain and stomach when you're nauseated, and by stopping the production of free radicals, another cause of upset in your stomach. In one study of cruise ship passengers traveling on rough seas, 500 mg of ginger every 4 hours was as effective as Dramamine, the commonly used OTC motion-sickness medication. In another study, where subjects took 940 mg, it was even more effective than the drug.
Garlic: Lower cancer risk
High consumption of garlic lowered rates of ovarian, colorectal, and other cancers, says a research review in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. A Japanese clinical trial also found that after a year of taking aged garlic extract supplements, people with a history of colon polyps saw a reduction in the size and number of the precancerous growths detected by their doctors.
It might also: Provide cardiovascular benefits. Garlic contains more than 70 active phytochemicals, including allicin, which many studies have shown decreases high blood pressure by as much as 30 points. Garlic may help prevent strokes as well by slowing arterial blockages, according to a yearlong clinical study at UCLA. In addition, patients' levels of homocysteine, a chemical that leads to plaque buildup, dropped by 12%.
Maximize the benefits: Crushed fresh garlic offers the best cardiovascular and cancer-fighting benefits, . But you'll need to down up to five cloves each day.

Lavender oil is extracted mostly from the flowers of the lavender plant, primarily through steam distillation. The flowers of lavender are fragrant in nature and have been used for making potpourri for centuries. Traditionally, lavender essential oil has also been used in making perfumes. The oil is very useful in aromatherapy and many aromatic preparations and combinations are made using lavender oil.
Lavender oil blends well with many other essential oils including cedarwood, pine, clary sage, geranium, and nutmeg. Today, lavender essential oil is frequently used in various forms including aromatherapy oil, gels, infusion, lotion, and soaps.
HEALTH BENEFITS
The various health benefits of lavender essential oil include the following:
Sleep: Lavender essential oil induces sleep which has made it a common recommendation for an alternative treatment of insomnia. Frequent studies on elderly patients have shown an increase in their sleep regularity when their normal sleep medication is replaced with some lavender essential oil being placed on their pillows. It has such a relaxing impact on people that it can often replace modern medicine for sleep issues.
Nervous system: Lavender essential oil has a calming scent which makes it an excellent tonic for the nerves and anxiety issues. Therefore, it can also be helpful in treating migraines, headaches, depression, nervous tension and emotional stress. The refreshing aroma removes nervous exhaustion and restlessness while also increasing mental activity. It has a well-researched impact on the autonomic nervous system, which is why it is frequently used as a treatment for insomnia and also as a way to regulate heart-rate variability. One study showed that people taking tests showed a significant decrease in mental stress and anxiety, as well as increased cognitive function when they inhaled lavender oil and rosemary oil before taking the exam!
Acne: According to dermatologists and aromatherapists, lavender essential oil is one of the most beneficial oils in the treatment of acne, which is a very uncomfortable and embarrassing condition that primarily affects young people as they move through puberty, but can also afflict adults. It is characterized by red, raised sores on the face and body that develop due to a bacterial infection near the sebum gland. When sebum cannot be properly secreted from the sebum glands on the face, it begins to build up, particularly because puberty stimulates extra sebum and bacteria feeds off of it, creating a vicious cycle of irritation, infection, and visible sores that can result in serious scarring.
Lavender essential oil inhibits the bacteria that cause the initial infection, helps to regulate some of the over-excretion of sebum by hormonal manipulation, and can reduce the signs of scarring after the acne has begun to heal. Adding a small amount of lavender essential oil to other skin creams or ointments can greatly increase the potential for relief and healing.

Pain relief: Lavender essential oil is known as an excellent remedy for various types of pains including those caused by sore and tense muscles, muscular aches, rheumatism, sprains, backache and lumbago. A regular massage with lavender oil can also provide relief from pain in the joints. A study done on postoperative pain relief showed that combining lavender essential oil vapor into the oxygen significantly reduced the amount of pain experienced, versus those patients only revived with oxygen after a major surgery.
Urine flow: Lavender essential oil is good for urinary disorders because of its stimulating effect on urine production. Furthermore, it helps in restoring hormonal balance and reducing cystitis or inflammation of the urinary bladder. It also reduces any associated cramps with these and other disorders.
Respiratory disorders: Lavender oil is widely used for various respiratory problems including throat infections, flu, cough, cold, asthma, sinus congestion, bronchitis, whooping cough, laryngitis, and tonsillitis. The oil is either used in the form of vapor or is applied on the skin of the neck, chest and back. It is also added to many vaporizers and inhalers that are commonly used for colds and coughs. The stimulating nature of lavender essential oil can also loosen up the phlegm and relieve the congestion associated with respiratory conditions, speeding up the recovery process and helping the body naturally eliminate phlegm and other unwanted material. The vapor of lavender essential oil also has antibacterial qualities which can battle respiratory tract infections.
Hair care: Lavender essential oil is useful for hair care because it has been shown to be very effective on lice, lice eggs, and nits. Furthermore, lavender essential oil has also been shown to be very helpful in the treatment of hair loss, particularly for patients who suffer from alopecia, an autoimmune disease where the body rejects its own hair follicles. A Sottish study reported that more than 40% of alopecia patients in the study reported an increase in hair growth when they regularly rubbed lavender essential oil into their scalp. Therefore, lavender oil is sometimes recommended as a preventative measure for male pattern baldness!
Cancer: Although more research needs to be done on human subjects, there is significant research on the effects of lavender, in combination with other essential oils, as a way to prevent the occurrence of breast cancer in mice. However, this could be an indication of an increased chance of lavender battling other carcinogenic effects and the presence of cancer.
Blood circulation: Lavender essential oil is also good for improving the circulation of blood in the body. It also lowers blood pressure and is often used for hypertension. This means that not only do the organs increase their levels of oxygenation, promoting muscle strength and health, but brain activity can have a noticeable boost, skin remains bright and flushed with blood, and the body is protected from the risks of heart attack and artherosclerosis that is often associated with poor circulation. Finally, in terms of diabetic patients, the application or inhalation of lavender essential oil can prevent some of their serious risks of low circulation, which can lead to dangerous or even fatal complications.
Digestion: Lavender oil is useful for digestion because it increases the mobility of food within the intestine. The oil also stimulates the production of gastric juices and bile, thus aiding in the treatment of indigestion, stomach pain, colic, flatulence, vomiting and diarrhea.
Immunity: Regular use of lavender essential oil provides resistance to a variety of diseases. It is well-known that lavender has antibacterial and antiviral qualities that make it perfect for defending the body against rare diseases like TB, typhoid, and diphtheria, according to early research in the 20th century.
General Skin care: The health benefits of lavender oil for the skin can be attributed to its antiseptic and antifungal properties. It is used to treat various skin disorders such as acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, and other inflammatory conditions. It is commonly used to speed up the healing process of wounds, cuts, burns, and sunburns because it improves the formation of scar tissues. Lavender oil is also added to chamomile to treat eczema.
Other: Other health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to treat leucorrhoea. The oil can also used to repel mosquitoes and moths, which is why you will find many mosquito repellents that contain lavender oil as one of the primary ingredients.
As with many other essential oils, pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using lavender essential oil. It is also recommended that patients with diabetes stay away from lavender oil. It may also cause allergic reactions to people that have unusually sensitive skin. Some people may also witness nausea, vomiting and headaches due to either common or excessive use of lavender oil.

The power of Aloe Vera
Health Living Tips
06:11
Aloe vera and its million benefits
Aloe vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows in dry
climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been
used medicinally for centuries.
Aloe leaves
secrete a clear gel that when broken off from the rest of the plant that
can be applied topically to heal wounds and soothe skin.
Various
studies have been conducted to examine the benefits of the aloe vera
plant and it was found out that aloe vera does in fact have several
properties that are effective in treating a variety of skin conditions,
from flaky or dry skin, cosmetic ailments, hair and scalp problems to
many more.
It is also said to be useful in
treating wounds and burns, minor skin infections, cysts, diabetes, and
elevated blood lipids in humans, and shows some promise in treating more
serious and persistent conditions such as eczema, genital herpes,
dandruff, psoriasis, canker sores, skin ulcers and others, according to
the Mayo Clinic.
Here are 8 benefits of using aloe vera gel:
1. It treats sunburn.
Aloe
Vera helps with sunburn through its powerful healing activity at the
epithelial level of the skin, a layer of cells that cover the body. It
acts as a protective layer on the skin and helps replenish its moisture.
Because of its nutritional qualities and antioxidant properties, the
skin heals quicker.
2. It acts as a moisturizer.
Aloe
moisturizes the skin without giving it a greasy feel, so it`s perfect
for anyone with an oily skin complexion. For women who use mineral-based
make-up, aloe vera acts as a moisturizer and is great for the face
prior to the application to prevents skin drying. For men: Aloe vera gel
can be used as an aftershave treatment as its healing properties can
treat small cuts caused by shaving.
3. It treats acne.
Aloe
vera gel contains two hormones: Auxin and Gibberellins. These two
hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties that
reduce skin inflammation. Giberellin in aloe vera acts as a growth
hormone stimulating the growth of new cells. It allows the skin to heal
quickly and naturally with minimal scarring.
Aloe
is soothing and can reduce skin inflammations, blistering and
itchiness, while helping the skin to heal more rapidly. Aloe is used to effectively heal chronic skin problems, such as psoriasis, acne and eczema.
4. It fights aging.
As
we age, everyone begins to worry about the appearance of fine lines and
the loss of elasticity in their skin. Aloe leaves contain a plethora of
antioxidants including, beta carotene, vitamin C and E that can help
improve the skin's natural firmness and keep the skin hydrated.
5. It lessens the visibility of stretch marks.
The
skin is like one big piece of elastic that’ll expand and contract as
needed to accommodate growth. But if the skin stretches too far, too
fast (due to pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss) the elasticity of the
skin can be damaged. That’s what leaves those unsightly stretch marks.
These marks appear due to minor tears in the layers of the skin caused
by sudden and excessive stretching. Aloe vera gel can help hide these
stretch marks by healing these wounds.
6. It's nutrient rich for good health.
This
solid material contains over 75 different nutrients including vitamins,
minerals, enzymes, sugars, anthraquinones or phenolic compounds,
lignin, saponins, sterols, amino acids and salicylic acid.
7. It soothes in periodontal disease.
According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology,
it's extremely helpful in the treatment of gum diseases like
gingivitis, periodontitis. It reduces bleeding, inflammation and
swelling of the gums. It is a powerful antiseptic in pockets where
normal cleaning is difficult, and its antifungal properties help greatly
in the problem of denture stomatitis, apthous ulcers, cracked and split
corners of the mouth.
8. It aids in digestion.
The internal benefits of aloe vera are supposed to be just as amazing. when you take aloe vera juice, it aids in healing ulcers. Some people consider it a laxative, while others
attribute that effect to its digestive qualities (which normalize the
system and induce regularity). The juice is also prescribed for
arthritis and rheumatism. To test any of these claims, steep the cut
foliage in water or chew pieces of the fresh leaf.

Bicarbonate of soda (Baking soda) for treating acne
Health Living Tips
05:12
Acne develops when growth of bacteria and the cells of your skin
clump together causing a swollen pimple. Not only does acne cause major
cosmetic concerns for many people, but it can also be quite
uncomfortable.
Several skincare authorities have touted exfoliates to be part of an effective acne treatment and prevention regimen. Everyday household ingredients can be used in making exfoliating paste made from baking-soda. Simple home-made facial masks made with baking soda can help you deal with the acne trouble.
Several skincare authorities have touted exfoliates to be part of an effective acne treatment and prevention regimen. Everyday household ingredients can be used in making exfoliating paste made from baking-soda. Simple home-made facial masks made with baking soda can help you deal with the acne trouble.
Is Baking Soda Effective in Treating Acne?
Baking soda is amphoteric which means that it has the ability to either act as a base or acid. This characteristic makes it a useful pH neutralizing chemical compound. It corrects the pH imbalance of the skin that contributes to acne formation. What's more, baking soda has mild anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that enable it to lessen the irritation caused by inflamed acne. Most importantly, baking soda has individual particles that are rounded and hard and also form fine powders thus making it a mild exfoliate. How to Use Baking Soda to Treat Acne
Some people claim that skin pH imbalance can be caused by using baking soda long-term. As a result, bacteria growth, which plays a major role in occurrence of acne, is promoted. Treating acne depends on a number of factors since not all treatments, depending on the condition of your body and extent of acne, this baking soda remedy will not work for all patients. When using baking soda to treat acne, you should first test the skin. If the acne worsens and no positive results are experienced even after using it long-term, discontinue its use and seek advice from a dermatologist. They'll advise you on how to deal with it.1. Baking Soda Mask
Benefits- Remove oil. You can use baking soda mask to remove oil over-secretion from your skin as you work to have the pimples on the face dried. If you have an oily face, you are also recommended to use oil free moisturizers twice daily i.e. morning and at night.
- Fight blackheads. A baking soda mask will minimize acne over time thanks to its ability to remove blackheads. Blackheads have bacteria that cause acne and excess oil which is trapped in pores of your skin. This mask is gentle on many skin types and even though it may cause a stinging sensation, this treatment that has been in use for ages.
- Baking soda (not powder)
- Clean water
- Step 1: Clean Your Face. Clean the face using a clean face towel and peanut butter or some warm water then dry the face well.
- Step 2: Prepare the Baking Soda. Take eight teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate and pour it inside a cup. You can go for Hammer or Arm baking soda even though any other type will do.
- Step 3: Add Some Water. Take some water (half as-much) and pour it into the cup.
- Step 4: Stir the Mixture. Take a spoon and stir the mixture. If it has excess water, add some baking soda, but if it is dry add some water. Ensure the mixture is creamy and soft i.e. not too thick or too light/thin.
- Step 5: Apply the Paste. Once you have a smooth consistency, apply it to the pimples with clean hands.
- Step 6: Wait. Once all pimples have been covered, leave the mask on for about 15mins or until the paste dries.
- Step 7: Rinse off the Paste. After the 15 minutes are done or the paste has completely dried off, rinse the hardened paste off.
- Step 8: Moisturize. Pat dry your face gently using a soft hand-towel. Afterwards, apply oil-free moisturizer to the neck and face. This will ensure that pH is balanced, and the needed moisturizer is added to your skin.
- Step 9: Repeat Twice a Week. Do this twice a week until the pimples have disappeared.
2. Other Ways to Use Baking Soda for Acne Skin Care
- Baking Soda Bath. Add 100grams or half a cup of baking soda to your warm bath water. This will refresh your skin especially if you have been exposed to swimming pool-water that has been heavily chlorinated. Baking soda bath also prevents breakouts that are caused by pseudomonas skin infections. You can also loosen blackhead skin at the back by having a sponge bath mixed with water.
- Baking Soda with Shampoo. Add 2-3 grams of baking soda to your bottle of shampoo to get rid of volumizer and mousse thus reducing acne at the hairline on the forehead.
- Baking Soda to Relieve Sunburn. Mix 120ml of some cool water with 15 grams of baking soda can help slow down pigment formation in your skin and also relieve sunburn.

Let's treat acne/pimples naturally
Health Living Tips
00:01
Acne, medically known as Acne Vulgaris, is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles.
The types of pimples
- Whiteheads - remain under the skin and are very small
- Blackheads - clearly visible, they are black and appear on the surface of the skin. Remember that a blackhead is not caused by dirt. Scrubbing your face vigorously when you see blackheads will not help
- Papules - visible on the surface of the skin. They are small bumps, usually pink
- Pustules - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are red at their base and have pus at the top
- Nobules - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are large, solid pimples. They are painful and are embedded deep in the skin
- Cysts - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are painful, and are filled with pus. Cysts can easily cause scars.
What causes acne or pimples?
Nobody is completely sure what causes acne. Experts believe the primary cause is a rise in androgen levels - androgen is a type of hormone. Androgen levels rise when a human becomes an adolescent. Rising androgen levels make the oil glands under your skin grow; the enlarged gland produces more oil. Excessive sebum can break down cellular walls in your pores, causing bacteria to grow. Some studies indicate that a susceptibility to acne could also be genetic. Some medications that contain androgen and lithium may cause acne. Greasy cosmetics may cause acne in some susceptible people. Hormone changes during pregnancy may cause acne either to develop for the first time, or to recur.
Best All Natural Remedies for Acne:
1. Baking Soda-This stuff powerful at clearing skin! Baking soda not only helps eliminate breakouts and reduces inflammation, it is also an exfoliator and helps remove dead skin cells! Because of this, it also works great to reduce any old scars or acne marks. To use it, just take a few teaspoons of baking soda and mix it with warm water until it forms a paste. Apply the paste to your skin. You may want to leave it on for only 10 to 15 minutes the first few times as it may feel powerful. You can gradually increase the time up to an hour or even leave it on overnight (which is what I do). After one use you can see a great difference in your skin.2. Apple Cider Vinegar- This natural remedy for acne is another powerful one, it has both antibacterial and anti fungal properties. To start out, you may want to dilute a few teaspoons with half water or ¼ water as it can be quite powerful when applied directly to your skin. Make sure to use Apple Cider Vinegar that’s raw, unfiltered and labeled as “with the mother”, which has the most nutrients.
3. Coconut Oil- Coconut oil is antibacterial and anti fungal. Coconut oil is also extremely moisturizing and gentle. It helps fight the bacteria and reduce redness. Apply the coconut oil to your skin and massage it in. You can reapply a couple times per day. With coconut oil, there is no need to ever use a moisturizer again, it works so well and doesn’t clog your pores. For optimal benefit, use cold pressed coconut oil/extra virgin coconut oil that is unrefined.
4. Tea Tree Oil- Tea tree oil is an essential oil and can be a very powerful all natural remedy for acne, as it is antibacterial. To apply it, mix a small amount of tea tree oil with an equal amount of water. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and apply it to your skin. You can reapply throughout the day or leave it on under your makeup.
5. Egg Whites- For this, I’m not talking about eating them, they make a great natural remedy for acne when used as a facial mask! Egg whites reduce the oil and minimize your pores in addition to drawing out impurities. To use it, separate the egg white from the yolk, use a cotton ball or you can use your fingers to apply the egg white to your skin. After a few minutes you’ll start to feel it tighten, you can leave it on anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. Afterwards, your skin will have an amazing glow!
6. Lemon Juice- For this one, you can either use lemon juice or a fresh squeezed lemon. Lemons have natural antibacterial and astringent properties to help clear your skin. Apply the lemon juice to your skin and leave on for 15 minutes to an hour.
7. Garlic- Not only is garlic a great natural antibacterial when ingested, it also works great topically. To use it, take a clove of garlic and thinly slice it. Rub the slices on your skin, particularly any problem areas, making sure the juice of the garlic is applied. Leave on for 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
8. Ice Cubes- Rub an ice cube on problem areas to help reduce inflammation. Not only, does the cold close your pores it also forces the bacteria out. You can also splash your face with cold water to achieve similar affects.
9. Aloe Vera gel- Aloe is very soothing and reduces inflammation and redness. To use it, apply the gel to your skin with your fingers, you can apply it several times a day. If you have an aloe plant, it would be even better as you get the aloe fresh, without any added ingredients. Or you could also just get an organic aloe gel.
These definitely will work wonders to eliminate the acne
