    Jhpiego is the lead implementing partner for the USAID’s five year Maternal and Child Survival Project (MCSP), which aims to scale up evidence-based, high impact reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions with increased equity to end preventable maternal and child deaths.These interventions will be scaled up in select counties with poor maternal, newborn and child health indicators with a strong emphasis on program learning and accountability to strengthen RMNCH outcomes across the continuum of care from the household, through the community to the health facility level.
    We are currently looking for a senior experienced individual with excellent technical skills who is a team player, dedicated, hard-working, highly motivated and able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-tasking with minimum supervision.
    Monitoring, Evaluation & Research Advisor
    Reporting to the Technical Director MCSP, the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) Advisor will lead the MER function of the project specifically, in the development of the M&E framework, monitoring of project implementation, reporting of the key project indicators, and take the lead in promoting and spearheading all research activities of the project.
    This position is based in Nairobi; however, there will be frequent travel to target counties.
    Responsibilities
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance in all aspects of the project monitoring, evaluation and research
  • Contribute to strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of the MER activities of the project
  • Develop tools and strategies to improve evidence based programming
  • Contribute in the preparation and implementation of project’s work plans and technical quarterly and annual reports to the project and its funding agencies
  • Compile and analyse data for performance monitoring and evaluation to allow the project team to have a good overview of project performance.
  • Coordinate with project and other partner staff in the implementing districts to create, test, and refine relevant M&E frameworks for effective collection, storage and use of service provision data
  • Work with program officers in producing and maintaining up-to-date project management and monitoring tables
  • Assist in gathering technical updates on program planning, monitoring, evaluation and research
  • Develop and maintain a system for archiving M&E guidelines, tools, data files, analysis files, reports and presentations for each major activity undertaken
  • Facilitate on-the-job MER training for capacity development, especially in the area of use of data for decision making.Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in M&E, statistics, epidemiology, or public health related field
  • Five years of work experience working in public health projects.
  • Extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation and health information management system
  • Excellent analytical, oral and report- writing skills

    AFRICA KOMMT!

    Afrika Kommt! is a capacity building initiative that was set up in 2008 by nineteen of Germany's leading companies.

    The programme aims at highly qualified young professionals and junior executives from countries in Sub-Saharan Africa with several years of hands-on work experience, strong leadership qualities and a very high level of commitment and dedication.

    At the heart of the programme is a nine-month practical training in a leading German enterprise, allowing the participants to gain first-hand practical experience in a leading German enterprise to be exposed to leadership concepts and management techniques in practice to become acquainted with working processes and business culture in
    German enterprises to extend their international management competencies to initiate networks of cooperation partners between Sub-Saharan Africa and German companies.

    The Bio-resources Innovations Network for Eastern Africa Development (Bio-Innovate) Program, hosted at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), is a regional initiative established to support multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder biosciences and product-oriented innovation activities in the eastern Africa countries of Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
    The purpose of the Program is to strengthen the link between research, bio-innovation and end users with the aim of initiating and commercializing/deploying innovations for sustainable utilization and integration of the region’s bio-resources for economic growth and development.
    Phase I of the Program that commenced in 2010 is projected to end in 2015 (www.bioinnovate-africa.org).
    Responsibilities:
  • Take lead in evaluating the technical and commercial potential as well as social and environmental impact of technologies and products generated by current and future projects.
  • Provide requisite guidance to enable deployment of generated technologies and products to the market place.
  • Support and monitor the pilot-testing, commercialization and scaling up activities.
  • Provide the Program management secretariat, projects teams and partners with intellectual property, business and other legal as well as regulatory requirement support.
  • Serve as the virtual bio-incubator leader to guide the innovation processes for the supported projects and ventures.
  • Support resource and technology mobilization activities and ensure new or existing partners effectively interface to meet stated objectives.
  • Identifying appropriate bio-incubation models for the effective incubation of start-ups, early stage and small enterprises, as well as ‘spin-off’ companies Requirements:
  • Master’s in business, finance, project management or equivalent. Possession of MSc or PhD in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • Over 7 years in business and project development, technology transfer, and a solid understanding of the technical and business incubation processes of bio-innovation.
  • Proven record of guiding teams taking research and development outputs to the market.
  • Demonstrable expertise in managing incubators and commercializing bioscience innovations.
  • A solid understanding of the business as well as policy and regulatory environment in the Eastern Africa region.

  • Should possess good negotiation as well as networking and interpersonal skills.Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, on ILRI main campus
    Position level: The position is level 5A equivalent to Senior Scientist level, dependent on qualifications and experience.
    Duration: 1 year fixed term contract with the possibility of renewal on regular basis, as part of the Program Management Team in Phase II, based on performance and availability of continued funding.
