Mission of the Department:
To ensure strategic promotion of WWF Kenya Brand among different audiences in the country and within the Network in support of the WWF Strategic Plan and Communication Strategy.
Major Functions


  • Ensure that the WWF- Kenya produces and promotes strategic communication on its conservation programmes that are of the very highest quality and relevance to Kenya and to implementation of its Strategic Plan, in line with that of WWF - Regional
  • Office for Africa Communication & Branding Strategy and WWF International overall Communications Strategy.
  • Ensure that effective and strategic communication strongly supports resource mobilization from diverse partners. Major duties and Responsibilities
  • Effective Communication for Conservation Impact
  • Works in close partnership with WWF Kenya SMT and programme teams to develop and implement effective internal and external public relations & communications strategies for communicating WWF Kenya conservation initiatives and enhancing corporate image, visibility and brand;
  • Participates in developing, orchestrating and implementing strategic outreach programmes and campaigns to positively shape the thinking and public policy outcomes on conservation issues;
  • Prepares talking points and speeches for top management including Board of Directors;
  • Develops and disseminates IEC materials including print and electronic materials such as, logos, letterheads, newsletters, e-newsletters, banners, brochures; and annual reports to communicate WWF Kenya’s brand and conservation initiatives.
  • Ensures effective management of WWF Kenya’s website and ensures relevant and up to date content; Strategic Partnerships & Media Relations
  • Plays a leading role in building and strengthening the strategic partnerships and relationship with strategic partners, government ministries and departments, public and private sector coalitions, CSOs and other key stakeholders to shape and advance the WWF Kenya position on conservation and related important policy issues;
  • Designs and implements crises and media handling strategies and builds strong media relations with the organization;
  • Takes a lead role in planning and organizing corporate events such as media briefs, seminars and conferences among others;
  • Represents the organization in various platforms to promote WWF Kenya’s and the sector’s position on important conservation and relevant public policy issues;
  • Participates in developing and implementing Corporate Citizenship Programs and activities including an effective measurement and analysis approach for campaigns that will support prioritization of corporate citizenship activities and investments. Management of Resources and Budgets
  • Provides support to fundraising team in designing fundraising information as part ofthe wider resource mobilization strategy;
  • Works with finance team to develop a cost-effective budget, schedule and tracking system for all communication programmes;
  • Ensures prudent management and safety of communication assets and resources;
  • Leadership and People Management
  • Provides leadership and supervises the communication team.
  • Coordinates setting of both departmental work plans and staff performance targets and undertakes periodic performance appraisal for communication staff;
  • Liaises with Human Resource function in carrying out staff training needs assessments and recommends training programs to address performance gaps;

    Required Qualifications
  • Holder of an advanced university degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations, or other related fields;
  • Proven track record, and at least 7 years experience (Preferably in Kenya) in communications or PR;
  • Member of Public Relations Society of Kenya;
  • Understanding of institutional and legal framework in Kenya as it relates to PR, media and communications issues;
  • A good understanding of the realities of PR and communications for promoting conservation issues;
  • Excellent desktop publishing and multi-media skills;
  • Excellent Customer focus and communication skills;
  • Strategy formulation and deployment skills;
  • An understanding of, and vocational interest in environmental conservation, international development, NGO sector and other related fields would be preferred;

  • The Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of all WWF Kenya staff in the Communications Department.
  • He/she will involve himself/herself as appropriate in the hiring, development, and evaluation of all WWF Kenya staff in the Communications Department and ensure strategic growth and development of the Department. Working Relationships
  • Internal: interacts with the WWF Kenya Executive Director, Director Fundraising and Communication, Director Conservation, other Heads of Departments and WWF staff on a daily basis, and as required coordinates and interacts with the Coastal East Africa (CEA) Nl team, and WWF-ROA, WWF International, and other WWF Network staff.

    Major Function:
    Develop and implement a resource mobilisation strategy to grow income from within Kenya and maximise sources of income from WWF network offices and their external donors
    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to grow income from within WWF Kenya based on research and knowledge of the most appropriate sources of income for the region
  • Explore the partnership potential of strategic corporate engagements, working closely with the international corporate partnerships team to ensure corporate alliances are strategic as well as philanthropically aligned
  • Build public sector partnerships with bilateral and multilateral agency offices and other agencies in Kenya, working with the relevant WWF offices who manage the parent relationships
  • Develop and implement a strategy to grow income from major donors, including high net worth individuals and foundations from Kenya.
  • Work closely with WWF network offices to identify potential donors (corporate, individual and foundation) from outside Kenya with an interest in Kenya and Kenya’s conservation programmes.
  • Prepare high quality proposals and reports for prospective donors such approaches, in conjunction with the relevant WWF fundraising offices who manage the donor relationships; and work closely with conservation teams to ensure programme delivery and strong information flows
  • Set fundraising targets in conjunction with the WWF Kenya Directors, monitor and manage performance on a quarterly and annual basis and report as required to WWF-Kenya SMT Profile:
    Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum undergraduate university degree.
  • At least five years’ experience in fundraising in at least one of the areas of: public sector partnerships, major donors, trusts/foundations or corporate fundraising.
  • At least three years’ fundraising experience in an international setting, ideally with an INGO and with experience in Africa.
  • Experience of creating and implementing a fundraising strategy for new markets
  • Proven track record of generating significant gifts, preferably in the context of an international organisation
  • Experience and expertise in developing relationships with institutional donors, high net worth individuals or corporations. Required Skills and Competencies:

    Mission of the Department:
    To help the WWF Kenya office and the WWF Network grow in strength and influence by leading the development of a growth strategy and building the WWF Kenya brand and profile.
    Major Functions:
  • Lead the development and ¡mplementation of fundraising and communication strategies and plans for WWF-Kenya
  • Leads the fundraising efforts on behalf of WWF Kenya including planning, managing and ensuring the delivery of an agreed fundraising strategy and budget.
  • Manages and implements a fundraising action plan covering Public Sector Partners (PSPs), foundations, corporate, major donors and High Net-worth Individuals (HNWI).
  • The Director leads the fundraising team in negotiating and ensuring that contractual obligations are met for prospective and existing donors, including managing donor relationships

    Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • An advanced degree in management, business administration, communication, marketing, or other relevant field.
  • Proven experience of successful fundraising across the priority donor segments, with a track record of raising significant gifts (6 figures) from government agencies, foundations, corporations or major donors
  • At least 8 years of leading and managing teams
  • Proven success in developing and executing branding and communications strategies.
  • Proven editorial judgement and thorough knowledge of on and off-line international media markets.
  • Experience in developing and implementing online/digital strategies for engagement, campaigning and fundraising
  • Knowledge and experience of the not-for-profit sector, preferably of environmental non-governmental organizations.

    WWF Kenya Species Conservation Programme is seeking to recruit Programme Coordinator Rhino Project.
    The selected candidate will be reporting to Species Conservation Manager who will lead WWF species conservation policy work.
    The WWF Kenya rhino programme is supporting implementation of the National Black Rhino Conservation Strategy - which involves various stakeholders and lead by KWS; and for which the majority of the funds raised are spent through KWS.
    WWF Ke seeks a dedicated individual, available immediately, to scale up and to coordinate WWF rhino conservation work.
    Main Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the implementation of Rhino conservation project activities in line with projects action plans
  • Oversee WWF Kenya Rhino project development, management, implementation and the technical and financial reporting against the project implementation and action plan adhering to WWF network programme management standards, working closely with the WWF-Kenya Species Conservation Manager and finance teams
  • Leads in the assessment and reporting of progress including quality assurance, capacity building and conservation innovations
  • Working with finance team, responsible for project budgeting, implementation of annual work plans and project activities coordination

    The successful candidate will have significant experience and a proven conservation record and comprehensive understanding, in natural resource conservation, ideally with a focus on rhino and elephant.
    In particular the candidate must have:
  • Master’s degree in wildlife conservation, natural resource management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years practical experience ¡n wildlife conservation in Kenya with an international non-governmental organization (NGO) or relevant government agency.
  • Experience in wildlife law enforcement and capacity building is a definite advantage;
  • 3 years’ experience in project development, management (technical and financial), monitoring and reporting (technical and financial).

    6. Position title: Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Manager

    1) Mission:
    World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is the Global Conservation Organization whose mission is to stop the degradation of the Planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which human live in harmony with nature.
    As part of WWF Kenya’s growth to make conservation impact at scale locally to deliver towards this global goal, we are strengthening our internal capacity to support an effective monitoring, evaluation and learning system.
    The role of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Manager will therefore be to develop, review and implement a robust Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning framework and tools to facilitate measurement of progress; enhance compliance of programmes and projects with Network standards, policy frameworks and best practices; and achieve efficiency and accountability.
    2) Major Functions:
    The Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Manager will work on a full time basis under the direction of the Director Conservation Programmes (DCP) - WWF Kenya towards effective implementation of WWF Strategic Plan for Kenya.
    The holder of the position will play a major role in providing technical support to the Conservation Programme especially in tracking conservation delivery using the Dashboard and appropriate M&E tools and processes, building capacity for M&E among field projects’ staff.
    S/he will be expected to assist project managers in ensuring sound project planning, monitoring and evaluation of progress and technical reporting.
    The MEL Manager will provide technical support to the functions of the WWF-Kenya Departments so as to ensure the development and implementation of the Organizational Strategic Plan to the highest standards, in particular;
    a) Monitoring — Take lead in the design and implementation of a monitoring framework to track delivery against WWF - K goals and objectives.
    b) Evaluation — Take lead in the analysis of data collected under the monitoring framework for assessment of progress and areas for improvement.
    In addition, facilitate evaluations of WWF - K activities especially external evaluations to determine impact.
    c) Reporting - Provide regularly updated reports to the DCP and Departmental Heads on the status of implementation against WWF - Kenya goals and objectives.
    Additionally, the incumbent will work with Project Managers to ensure timely and quality technical reports as per WWF network standards and donor requirements.
    d) Knowledge management - Facilitate continuous and collaborative learning within WWF - Kenya based on key data from the performance management system.
    Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads the development of a comprehensive MEL Plan and System for WWF - Kenya;
  • Ensures that all programmes and project adheres to the WWF Network Programme and Projects Management Standards (PPMS);
  • Establishes effective knowledge management mechanisms including documentation of baselines, impacts and
  • Take charge of collating and synthesizing information, updating the monitoring matrix and other monitoring tools in place (Dashboard, SPMS, APMS) for both conservation and operational objectives;

  • Prepares relevant technical briefing papers and status updates to the WWF - Kenya Senior Management Team (SMT);
  • Take lead in MEL capacity building activities for WWF - Kenya Project staff, including WWF Network Standards trainings;
  • In liaison with the WWF - Kenya Communications Manager, compile news and produce conservation communication materials to promote the Organization’s brand;
