DRIVER NEEDED BY AN NGO IN KENYA

Build Africa Kenya (BAK) is a Non-Governmental Organization committed to developing the potential of young people and supporting their participation in sustainable development programmes.
BAK programme components are Education and Livelihoods Development, currently being implemented in Gilgil, Elementaita, Elburgon, Kwale, and Machakos Districts.
BAK is seeking to engage a highly qualified part time driver who will be part of the team implementing these projects.
The position will be for a period of six (6) months and will be based in Machakos with significant travel to the field.
Job Purpose
The purpose this position is to facilitate BAK staff to respective work stations as well as manage/drive BAK vehicle as per policy and procedures.
You will be expected to adhere to the local traffic rules and provide specific support to Programme staff in Gilgil Office
Key Responsibilities
· Facilitate staff and BAK visitors to various destinations while on official duties observing the Kenyan traffic rules and regulations.
· Liaising with the Gilgil Programme coordinator and other staff and agree on a monthly field office travel plan.
· Fill in the daily mileage book/log entries ensuring clarity, completeness and accuracy of all errands made.
· In laison with the BAK administration officer, ensure that the statutory vehicle requirements such as inspection and insurance are renewed on timely basis.
· Conduct the weekly vehicle check list for all tools and report any peculiar findings to the supervisor immediately.
· Monitor vehicle fuel usage and report any cases of inefficiency to your supervisor.
· Ensuring that the assigned vehicles’ regular service and repairs are done on timely basis and that the vehicle is maintained in good condition.
Any mechanical problems noted on BAK vehicle should be reported immediately and follow- up made for repair.
· Prepare the monthly vehicle reports and forward to the Front Office/Logistics officer for review and approval.
· With assistance of the supervisor ensure that the provisions of vehicle operating standards as per vehicle manual policy are adhered to all times.
· Collect/deliver office mails and packages as necessary as directed by the Programme Coordinator.
· Carry out any other relevant duty that may be assigned to by the Supervisor.
Person Specification
· Minimum O level education with a valid driving licence.
· At least 5 years’ experience as a driver.
· A person of high integrity that will model BAK core values.
· Practical driving skills and knowledge of 4x4 driving.
· Must produce a valid certificate of good conduct.
Key Competence
· Good communication skills.
· Skills in fleet management and mechanics.
· Works well with all the staff.
· Good time management, highly organized and good time keeper.
· Fluent in English and Kiswahili (written and spoken)
· Team player, flexible and able to work under challenging circumstance.
· High integrity, accountable and able to work with minimum supervision.
