Seeking: Road Surveying Technical Expert (Consultant)
To Deliver Training on Use and Maintenance of Road Survey Equipment
USAID Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS) program: The
Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS) program is funded by
USAID and responds to the complex crisis that has evolved in Somalia.
The overall program goal is to mitigate conflict; to promote stability
and community cohesion, and to strengthen citizens’ relationships with
government officials.
TIS implements quick impact activities linked to longer-term stabilization goals.
DAI TIS invites qualified road surveying technical experts to apply a
short-term consultancy position to train select government staff on the
proper use and maintenance of a Total Station Sokkia CX Series.
The 5-day training will take place in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia.
The training is anticipated to take place in November 2014.
The training is expected to cover the following topics:
Basics of survey equipment, including evolution of survey equipment and different types of equipment in use
Specific theory of Dumpy levels, Theodolites, and Total station
Use of total station for both land and engineering surveys
Collection of survey data in the field and downloading data to the computer
Support in development of layout maps, topographical maps, and longitudinal profiles, among other products.
Basic routine equipment maintenance
MSE of theodolite for generation of topographic maps covering both small and large areas
How to conduct tachometric surveying.
Support in development of layout maps, topographic maps, longitudinal and cross-sectional profiles.
Training on software necessary for the execution of row data.
Electronic distance measurement (EDM) techniques.
The consultant will be expected to perform the following:
Prepare training materials with support from Nairobi office (1 day)
Travel to and from Garowe, Puntland, Somalia (2 days)
Train 10 government officials over the course of 5 full training days on surveying covering the topics listed above. (5 days)
Submission of short 2 page training report
Anticipated level of effort is 8 days
Qualifications:
Diploma in Surveying and Mapping or any other a relevant field from a recognized Polytechnic or University.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with regard to the designing,
planning, implementation, supervising and reporting on integrated
development works in surveying
Must be results orientated and can handle a heavy work load as
well as manage and satisfy multiple and at times conflicting
organizational, donor and other stakeholder demands.
Knowledge and application of ArchGIS, Arcview, Map source and other surveying design software will be an advantage.
Cross cultural experience, understanding and sensitivity
Contract Type: TIS DAI will award an independent consultant agreement for the services, inclusive of trainer’s fee and related travel costs.
The consultant will be paid one time after the services have been rendered successfully.
The consultant will not be responsible for the cost of training logistics, equipment and printing of materials.
